“It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner. “
Excerpt From The Art of Marriage | Wilferd A. Peterson
Relationships are like gardens; for them to flourish we need to take the time to prepare the beds, bring in the best soil and nutrients, water them diligently and honor and treat them with love and care. With that in mind, the team at Summit Celebrant has designed several opportunities for couples learn tools, techniques and practices to enable you each to establish a healthy foundation for your intimate relationship. Your coach for these offerings is Karen Talavera, offering Spiritually-Centered Guidance, Healing and Support. Karen is a spiritual life coach, writer and speaker providing inspiration, guidance and direction for those on a journey of self discovery, healing or transformation through turbulent times.
Building a Secure Partnership: Understanding Attachment Styles
If words like “anxious” and “avoidant” are new to you when it comes to relationships, it’s time to learn about attachment styles and understand your own as well as your partner’s. Learn how different styles can attract or repel one another, how to gravitate from either the anxious or avoidant end of the spectrum toward a secure middle, and how to co-create a secure relationship regardless of your previous default. Couples who register for this session will be provided a questionnaire to determine attachment style.
Pre-Paving to Expect the Best . . . and Get It!
Have you caught yourself distancing, bracing or “prepping for battle” in certain situations with your partner? Are your expectations of how your partner will act or what they will say not always positive? We all use past behavior to predict future behavior, but there’s a fine line and we can easily “poison the well” by projecting vs. staying neutral or better yet - anticipating the positive! The secret to getting the person you want? Holding the vision of their best self. It’s easier said than done, but this session teaches a process couples can immediately put into practice along with tips for staying on track.
Nurturing Spirit in Yourself, Your Partner, and Your Relationship
We are multidimensional beings: physical, emotional, intellectual, and - yes - spiritual. Yet for many couples, once the ceremony is over any spirituality which may have been part of it goes right out the window. In this session, learn and explore simple non-denominational practices for cultivating your own spiritual essence AND nurturing it in your relationship. A partnership can be sacred when the flame is kept glowing - and growing - through active spiritual practice.
